The Cheay Areng valley is located in the Koh Kong province of south west Cambodia, approximately 200 kilometers west  of the capital Phnom Penh. The upper reaches of the valley form an important part of the Cardamom Mountains Protected Forest, a precious biodiversity jewel of south east Asia. The valley is threatened by a proposed hydroelectric dam, which would flood 20,000ha of important wildlife habitat and the ancestral homes of the valley’s indigenous inhabitants.

This map indicates the approximate size and location of of the dam – double click to enlarge.
